Dr. Travis Marion

Dr. Travis E. Marion, MD., MSc., BEd., F.R.C.S.C., is a newly appointed Orthopaedic Surgeon at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre, the Regional Orthopaedic Program, and clinical associate with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. His subspecialty interests include orthopaedic trauma, spine, and arthroplasty.

Dr. Marion obtained his Doctorate of Medicine and received his orthopaedic training at the University of Ottawa, and fellowship training in complex spine surgery at the University of British Columbia and the Rick Hansen Institute. He further pursued fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma and arthroplasty at the University of Calgary. Throughout his training, Dr. Marion has provided medical care in Haiti, held a number of administrative positions and has been the recipient of divisional and institutional teaching awards.

Dr. Marion is a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association and remains active with the Canadian Spine Society. He has presented nationally and internationally, and his research has garnered multiple awards.

Shane McCormack

Shane McCormack is a community based Advanced Practice Clinician with the ISAEC program in Thunder Bay. Dr. McCormack has maintained a private Chiropractic practice in Northwestern Ontario since 2002, working collaboratively with other health care professionals for the benefit of patients. He sees exercise and fitness as a key component in the maintenance of long term health for individuals of all ages, and strives to deliver this message to his patients, encouraging them to include regular exercise in their lives.

Karen Murphy

Karen Murphy graduated from Queens University with a Bachelor of Science and Physical Therapy in 1998. She returned to Thunder Bay and has worked in the acute care setting and outpatient orthopedics at McKellar Hospital and TBRHSC. She joined our team as an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist at the Rapid Access Clinic in 2012.

The Advanced Practice Physiotherapist role has provided her the opportunity to work with an incredibly skilled and cohesive orthopaedic team to decrease wait times, provide timely access and quality care over multiple sites. In her new role as the Rapid Access Clinical Coordinator, she is responsible for triaging and prioritizing referrals for all of Northwestern Ontario through a centralized intake model.

Clients with hip and knee arthritis have benefited greatly with education from the team members, conservative management, surgical interventions at sites close to home, and monitoring post joint replacement.

It is an exciting time in orthopedic care at TBRHSC. The Musculoskeletal Centre of Excellence has expanded into a new space and the team continues to grow.

Alanna Augruso

Alanna Augruso is excited to join the ISAEC program as an Advanced Practice Clinician. She graduated with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2011, after completing an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology from Lakehead University. Alanna has completed postgraduate course work in both orthopaedics and acupuncture and is an active member of the Canadian and Ontario Physiotherapy Associations. She has been a practicing physiotherapist in the Thunder Bay community for the past 5+ years, currently practicing at Fanti + Associates, Physiotherapists. Alanna is excited about her new opportunity with ISAEC to provide collaborative patient care across the region, decrease wait times for patients and deliver education and evidenced based self management plans.

Shayda McCurdy

Shayda McCurdy joined the Rapid Access Clinic (RAC) as the new Advanced Practice Physiotherapist in March 2018. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 2009. She has worked in Ottawa, Toronto and Thunder Bay. Her most recent posting was at St. Joseph’s Hospital as the float physiotherapist. She has taken many post-graduate courses since graduation in an effort to deliver quality and efficient patient care.

Shayda has an appreciation for the “big picture” of health care costs and how changing access to care in one area can affect health care delivery in another. She is excited about her new opportunity with RAC to help decrease wait times, increase patient access to surgical care, and to provide patient education.

Stephen Figliomeni

Stephen graduated with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree from the University of Toronto in 2013 and previously completed an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at Lakehead University. In addition to his formal education, Stephen is certified in Functional Dry Needling, Soft Tissue Release and has completed his Level II Manual Therapy training for the upper and lower quadrants.

Born and raised in Schreiber, Stephen has a strong passion for sports, participating in a large variety of different sporting activities throughout the year. He has volunteered physiotherapy services for events such as the U-18 Baseball World Cup, the Goodlife Fitness Marathon and the Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships.

Stephen joins the ISAEC team as an Advanced Practice Clinician and looks forward to making a positive impact on the delivery of health care in our region.

Shana Magee

Shana is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario Physical Therapy program. She has completed her Advanced Clinician Practitioner in Arthritis Care (ACPAC) certification. She has experience working in both the private and public sector in orthopaedic physiotherapy care. She has worked as part of the rheumatology team at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the role of physiotherapist and as part of the Arthritis Referral Service for rheumatology triage. She has completed extensive continuing education over her career including BoneFit training and GLA:D training.

Sheri Robertson

Sheri Robertson is the Lead for the Inter-professional Spine Assessment and Education Clinic (ISAEC) in the NW LHIN. She graduated from Lakehead University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2000. Sheri has been working in private practice in Thunder Bay since 2001. Presently, she works part-time at the Rapid Access Clinic and at Cornerstone Chiropractic, a community-based private practice clinic. Sheri is a member of the Health Professions Advisory Committee for the NW LHIN and an examiner for the Canadian Chiropractic Board Exams. She is an active member of the community and is involved in youth sports committees in Thunder Bay.

Sheri is an advocate for the collaborative care model that she has had the opportunity to work within for the past 6 years in the ISAEC program. She believes that the inter-professional and collaborative care models are pivotal to patient satisfaction and improved outcomes.
